Her own stamina has brought her full circle in San Francisco, where 10 years ago she was an Adler fellow in the Opera's Merola program for rising young singers. Stamina is one of the things it takes to be an opera star, Racette says. "It would be absolutely perfect for me, working out your aggression." "I'm going to do it, mark my words," she says firmly. She hasn't actually taken up kickboxing yet. I just can't find a room big enough where I can do it." ![]() "I carry my Tae-Bo tapes with me everywhere. She'd be kickboxing if she could - just give her time. "You'll see that I need to be fit," Racette, 35, says of the energetic new production. Zambello is directing Racette in Verdi's " Luisa Miller," a seldom-performed gem that opens the season Saturday in the War Memorial Opera House. "We have very strong feelings and reactions," Racette says. Racette says she and her mentor, stage director Francesca Zambello, have a "combustible" relationship - fruitful, too, she quickly adds. She has the temperament, too (another good thing, if anybody has any doubts). ![]() A good thing in a singer, particularly one who is opening the San Francisco Opera season.
